Before all the changes around traveling, my fam and I headed up to the Big Apple for the first weekend in March because it was my older brother Gavin’s birthday! We hopped on a train around 10a.m. in New Jersey and arrived in the city around 11a.m. Our first stop was to drop off our bags at our hotel & then we went straight to Gavin’s apartment. I hadn’t seen it before, but as soon as I did I wanted to move in lol. The main room had a direct view of the Empire State Building, the High Line, and the Statue of Liberty. The view got even better when we went to the rooftop… I was in awe. I just did not want to leave, the views of New York City were breathtaking. Once we did leave though we got some delicious NYC subs, Blue Bottle coffee, and did some shopping at the Hudson Yards mall. This meant that I got to see the Vessel again which is always a sight to see! The only problem was I stupidly wore a skirt on one of the coldest days of the winter, so I ended up going into the mall again to buy some Zara jeans. Now that I could feel my legs we could head to our next location.
For my brothers birthday dinner we planned to eat at restaurant called Elios, which ended up being an experience of a life time, but we will get to that later. The restaurant was close to Strawberry Fields which is a memorial across the street from the Dakota apartment where John Lennon was shot. Let’s just say my dad is obsessed with The Beatles, so he was having the time of his life with this. My brother, Owen, is also a big fan as well. We took our pics, listened to a woman play Beatles songs on her guitar, and then went walking around Central Park.
During our walk we saw a couple famous spots!
#1- We saw the hotel from the movie “Home Alone 2.”
#2- We saw the location where Chuck & Blair got married on Gossip Girl!! I freaked out over this one because Gossip Girl will forever be my favorite TV show.
Once I was done taking all of my pics it was time for dinner, so this is where things got even more fun! When we walked into the restaurant my Dad pointed out to us that Tom Selleck, Monica’s boy friend with a mustache from Friends, was sitting at the front table in the restaurant! We were all in shock because we all love Friends and my parents were fans of his other show Magnum P.I. When my mom had made the reservation for this restaurant she saw that many celebrities loved this restaurant including my fav Tom Hanks! That moment made our night, but we didn’t know it was gonna get even better. After Tom Selleck left the next person to sit at that same table was Paul McCartney. Keep in mind that I told you earlier that my dad is a HUGE Beatles fan, so when we saw him my Dad was speechless for the rest of the night. I went to the bathroom about 5 times that night to snatch a look at Tom & Paul lol. None of us went up to say anything to either of them since we wanted to be respectful & let them have a normal night. Owen, my dad, and my brothers girlfriend Brooke were really contemplating saying something though! Owen really wanted to yell “Thank you” while leaving the restaurant lol.

This day my fam went our separate ways in the city. Owen and my Dad were going to Madison Square Garden to see a Flyers game while Gavin, my mom, Brooke, and I went to Soho. Gavin wanted to go to brunch at his fav place Le Petit Dejeuner. The place had the cutest aesthetic because they had a wall of polaroids and a disco ball. We got amazing French toast with dried apples and vanilla on them! (I also got a super good cappuccino) Post breakfast we did some shopping at Aritzia, Adika, Bloomingdales etc and then just hung out until it was time to go catch our train. Overall, NYC was super fun even though it was a short trip. I always love being in cities so I was a little sad to leave, but luckily for me my Junior class field trip to Washington DC was coming up that next Thursday…

At my school every year the Junior class gets to go to Washington DC for a day! The day started off on a charter bus where we had a pretty long drive ahead of us. My friend Keeley and I spent the whole ride watching TikTok’s and The Vampire Diaries we are both #TeamDamon all the way. Eventually though DC welcomed us with a great view of the Washington Monument. We arrived around 11o’clock to DC when our whole class of over 300 teenager’s all got off the buses & took off into the city. The funny thing is half of us all went to the same location first… Shake Shack. The DC locals were probably so confused when they saw a crowd of teenagers all racing towards the same spot. Waiting a long time for the food was worth it though because Shake Shack burgers are just too good. Across from Shake Shack was an art museum. I loved admiring all the paintings & statues but we couldn’t stay too long since we had a reservation time to tour the U.S. Capitol building.
The The U.S. Capitol was filled with lots of art work & statues of people who had big impacts on the U.S. We all were just walking around listening to our tour guide, but then I surprisingly saw my older brothers friend! I had forgotten that he works in the capitol building, so I really was in shock! It did make the tour 10 times more fun though since I always enjoy catching up with my brothers friends. Once the tour was over we said our goodbyes then my group was off to Starbucks. We all sat outside while enjoying our drinks, I got my fav iced blonde vanilla latte. We didn’t stay long though because an old man was getting wheeled out of the Starbucks location into an ambulance. We were gonna stay longer but due to the situation we decided to head on over to the Washington Monument! This meant it was time to get some pics for the Instagram! The monument is always an iconic photo taking spot, and we all loved taking timer cam jumping pics, pics of us “touching” the top of the monument, and taking DSCO videos for VSCO. It was so fun the only thing was it was time to start heading back to the buses. We spent the ride home editing our posts & then everyones Instagram feeds were filled with everyones pictures in DC. Overall, the field trip was so fun and was definitely one of the best moments from my Junior year!
Btw I know what you all are thinking “why did she go to 2 cities with the coronavirus going on!” The thing is I went on both of these trips before everything went crazy, so now I’m just reminiscing on the trips since I’m stuck at my house all day! Looking back on these trips have really helped me appreciate the little things, and that when you go on little trips like these appreciate them since you never know when they could be taken away! I hope reading this gave y’all something to do since a lot of us are trying our best to stay busy! If your super bored you could always binge read my other blog posts, but if you don’t hope you all have a great day during this craziness. Be safe & stay healthy!!
